March 1, 2015 - Real Estate Development in San Pedro and the Cayes

The small city of San Pedro is located on Ambergris Caye, the wealthiest, tourist-populated destination in Belize.

Ambergis Caye is a small island (caye) of only a few thousand people, located 15 kilometers off the Belize mainland (only a short trip from Belize City). Situated in this easily accessible location, San Pedro and its surroundings has gorgeous beaches, Mayan ruins, and world-famous scuba diving sites. The largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere is located in the caye’s turquoise waters, and includes a majestic sinkhole called the Great Blue Hole. Belize is a beautiful country, and many people think Ambergris Caye is the most beautiful part.

Real estate investment is at a good point in San Pedro. The island is highly developed for tourism, so investing now isn't a hit-or-miss venture. But it isn't over-developed, so there is plenty of the opportunity cake still on the table. (For instance, there are five-star resort hotels such as the Ritz Carlton and the Four Seasons on San Pedro, but those are currently the only two.)

  • San Pedro has a new medical clinic, and for anything more serious, the hospitals in Belize City are only a quick hop away
  • The expat community is San Pedro is strong and active, so you’ll feel right at home

If you’re interested something more off the beaten path, you might want to explore Belize investment opportunities in Caye Caulker. Caye Caulker real estate is much less developed, with less restaurants and bars (and expats). The caye has a small village, Caribbean vibe. The preferred methods of transportation here?: walking or biking. Don’t get your hopes up for a taxi. The flip side: land and real estate are less expensive.
